After applying a penetrant containing fluorescent dye or coloring dye to the surface of the pressure pipe or container to be inspected, the penetrant penetrates into the surface opening defect under the action of capillary tube after a certain period of time. After removing the excess penetrant, the developer is applied to absorb the infiltrated penetrant to the inspected surface to form a defect display, thereby detecting the surface opening defect of the pipe or container.
Advantages: No large equipment is required, generally no water or electricity is required, and the sensitivity is higher than that of X-ray or ultrasound; Disadvantages: The detection sensitivity is lower than that of magnetic particle detection technology.
It is also often used as a means of non-destructive testing of the pipe surface, pipe port, weld surface, and fillet weld of China Railway’s magnetic pressure pipelines (chemical project pipes A335P22, A335P11, SA106B, A333 Gr.6, Gr.8; 20#, Q345D/E - GB9948/GB6479 pipeline pipes L245N L360NL360Q L415Q, etc.). At the same time, it is not suitable for non-magnetic materials such as nickel-based alloys and stainless steel.
